The renowned, Grammy Award–winning violinist Joshua Bell leads this celebration of a new era of cultural diplomacy with a vibrant program that spans from Vivaldi classics to Piazzolla tangos and beyond. Joining Bell is the Chamber Orchestra of Havana, with pianist/composer Aldo López-Gavilán, singer-songwriter Carlos Varela, and soprano Larisa Martínez. Special guest Dave Matthews will perform several of his own songs accompanied by Bell, the Chamber Orchestra of Havana, and the guest artists.
The concert grew out of Bell’s experience as part of the first official government-to-government bilateral initiative after President Obama’s historic trip to Cuba. The mission of this initiative, organized by the President’s Committee on the Arts and the Humanities, was to extend the hand of friendship to the Cuban people through the arts. It included numerous collaborations between a diverse array of artists. The concert in New York, which marks the U.S. debut of the Chamber Orchestra of Havana, continues this important artistic dialogue.
