The Library presents programs featuring the music, dance, and theater of America and the cultures of countries from Egypt, Japan, and Kazakhstan to France, Greece, and the United Kingdom. One can see such internationally renowned musical artists as conductor James Levine and pianist/singer Steve Ross, or award-winning theater artists like Cherry Jones, Alan Bennett, and Harold Prince. Legendary choreographer Katherine Dunham and leading dancers from such companies as Alvin Ailey and Martha Graham have all graced the Library stage. The Library has two galleries—the Donald and Mary Oenslager Gallery and the Vincent Astor Gallery—that feature free exhibitions on topics ranging from disco and vaudeville to the theater of Charles Dickens and a celebration of prima ballerina Margot Fonteyn.
