In 1808, Beethoven gave an epic concert in Vienna—the Akademie, featuring the premieres of some of his most definitive works: the Fifth and Sixth Symphonies and the “Choral Fantasy,” the first public performance of his Fourth Piano Concerto, and more. In celebration of Beethoven’s 250th birthday, don’t miss Louis Langrée and the Festival Orchestra as they recreate this legendary concert in a must-see marathon at David Geffen Hall, joined by the extraordinary Kirill Gerstein, who brings improvisatory aplomb to the keyboard role Beethoven himself played two centuries ago in his last public performance.

The Program

Symphony No. 6 (“Pastoral”)
Ah! perfido
Gloria from Mass in C major
Piano Concerto No. 4

Symphony No. 5

“He commands the technical, artistic and intellectual prowess to attempt to climb these Everests.”
