Presented in collaboration with Jazz at Lincoln Center

Whether it’s in reference to the subterranean clubs where legendary performers have traditionally honed their chops or to the lingo of the knowingly hip in-crowd, the underground tradition in jazz is an important and lasting part of that music’s history. For the second summer in a row, Jazz at Lincoln Center returns to its roots with this regularly scheduled, rain-or-shine Jazz Underground Sunday concert series at The Underground at Jaffe Drive, located under Josie Robertson Plaza. Curated by the knowledgeable Jazz at Lincoln Center team, a handpicked selection of rising stars and venerable instrumentalists will congregate to delight audiences at this pop-up bar and performance stage.

PERFORMANCE SCHEDULE

June 25 - Ekep Nkwelle: A 23-year-old Cameroonian-American singer-songwriter who infuses her love for the African diaspora into her musical voice.

July 2 - Ashley Pezzotti: Award-winning jazz vocalist whose skyrocketing career has taken her places such as the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, Birdland Jazz Club, and The Jazz Showcase.

July 9 - Oscar Perez and the Clave Collective: Perez and his band of virtuosic players demonstrate their improvisational prowess and conservatory-honed facility for interpreting extended compositions.

July 16 - Bruce Harris Presents Pretty for the People: A Bronx-born-and-raised trumpeter lauded for his ability to draw on the beats and melodies of NYC.

July 30 - Brandee Younger: Groundbreaking Black woman harpist whose work celebrates the women who came before her while thoughtfully creating new life for the harp moving forward.
