In this “visually ravishing” production (Guardian, U.K.), renowned Chinese choreographer Yang Liping presents her stunning vision of the climactic battle between Chu and Han armies in 202 B.C., an encounter that changed the course of Chinese history. The story emerges from a fusion of martial arts, contemporary and Chinese folk dance, gymnastics, and hip-hop, along with live musicians and “breathtakingly gorgeous” design (Financial Times) by Tim Yip (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon). Based on historic events that form the backdrop of the Oscar-nominated film Farewell, My ConcubineUnder Siege blends ancient traditions with modern sensibilities to explore war and power, betrayal and passion with searing poignancy.

Following the performance, join us on the Koch Promenade for a cast party with the artists!
