Patrick Gardner conducts works of two great romantic composers, Schubert and Brahms. Schubert’s Mass in E Flat Major, a work which masterfully weaves influences of Bach, Mozart and Haydn with those of Beethoven, brilliantly showcases Schubert’s compelling lyricism and ability to convey his convictions through text. Metropolitan Opera mezzo soprano Margaret Lattimore joins the Riverside Choral Society for Brahms’ masterful Alto Rhapsody, paired perfectly with the composer’s Schicksalslied, both filled with lush harmonies depicting the contrast between the divine and the grim realities of the human realm.
