Essentially Ellington: competition part I

Jazz at Lincoln Center

A free program for high school jazz bands, Essentially Ellington aims to elevate musicianship, broaden perspectives and inspire performance. Each year, fifteen finalist bands from across North America travel to New York City to spend three days immersed in workshops, jam sessions, open rehearsals and competition performances at Jazz at Lincoln Center's home, Frederick P. Rose Hall. Participating schools include Crescent Super Band (American Fork, UT), Beloit Memorial High School (Beloit, WI), Roosevelt High School (Seattle, WA), San Diego School of Creative and Performing Arts (San Diego, CA), Mount SI High School (Snoqualmie, WA), New World School of the Arts (Miami, FL), University High School (Orange City, FL), and Tucson Jazz Institute (Tucson, AZ.) Judging this year are Wynton Marsalis, Lauren Sevian, Jeff Hamilton, Chuck Israel and Chris Crenshaw.
