The Juilliard School conferred 275 undergraduate and postgraduate degrees at its 111th commencement ceremony on May 20, 2016, an event celebrated by a capacity audience in Alice Tully Hall and viewed via live stream in more than 50 countries around the world. After Juilliard Board Chair Bruce Kovner greeted the graduates and their families, Juilliard President Joseph W. Polisi, Provost and Dean Ara Guzelimian, and Vice President for Library and Information Resources Jane Gottlieb presented honorary degrees to pianist Leif Ove Andsnes, actress Christine Baranski (Juilliard Drama Group 3), jazz saxophonist and composer Wayne Shorter (in absentia), actress Cicely Tyson, and dancer Sylvia Waters (BS ’62, dance). Alumna Baranski gave the commencement address and the ceremony also featured performances by Juilliard students and faculty.
