"She Blew My Mind (69 Times)" by Rick James
Rick James is my favorite artist of all time. My biggest influence when it comes to party funk. He is punk funk, from his songwriting, singing, his moves, his aura. This is my favorite song of his.
"Behind The Groove" by Teena Marie
Rick James’s protégé. Lady T has all the sex appeal and can sing like no other. She is Vanilla child. They don’t make them like this anymore. This is a great jam. The drums, the bass, it has a deep driving groove that’s infectious.
"Got To Be Enough" by Con Funk Shun
Great party jam all around. Plus they wear one-piece tights with glitter and rhinestones. That’s Funk. I enjoy the lyrics as well. Explaining his love to a woman, how he can do it like no other. Taking a chance on love. Great jam. The bass lines are insane.
"Take Your Time (Do It Right)” by The S.O.S. Band
One of my favorite bands of all time. This is the first song I heard by them when I was a child. The melodies are infectious and catchy. I love the syncopation. It’s an ultimate party funk jam for the dance floor.
"Light Up The Night" by The Brothers Johnson
I mean, the bass playing, the BASS PLAYING is cray. Just peep the jam. The horns are lovely, too.
"Watching You" by Slave
My favorite funk band is Slave. They were a big influence on my first record, from their songwriting and instrumentation. Steve Arrington has this real weird, funky sound which I've always been drawn to. You will thank me later.
"On The Beat" by B.B. & Q. Band
This jam is so crazy. The bass lines are everything. The bridges and hooks are so melodic and catchy. The synths in this jam are something special and underrated.
"Sweat (Till You Get Wet)" by Brick
I mean, this is a game-changing jam. Who puts flutes in party funk jams? BRICK does, that’s who. When you hear it your head will spin and you might break a sweat, too.
"Love Festival" by Kool & The Gang
A great jam for the dance floor. Grab a lady, grab a fella, grab a friend. Love is in the air on this jam.
"Strokin'" by Dynasty
That funk love-making jam. Because sometimes strokin’ is the only way.
“Got to Go” by Boulevards
“Synths and slap bass juicy enough for the whole family.” —Noisey
