Presented in partnership with the Polish Cultural Institute New York Piotr Damasiewicz Quintet Our Polish Jazz Festival concludes with a 9:30pm set split between two mesmerizing groups: the Lutoslawski Quartet with Uri Caine and the Marcin Wasilewski Trio. The extraordinary Lutoslawski string quartet, named after the great 20th century composer Witold Lutoslawski, has spent the past decade performing around the world to great acclaim, collaborating with top international musicians, and performing the works of 20th and 21st century composers, including the group’s own Marcin Markowicz. Tonight they join American pianist Uri Caine, a distinctive artist highly regarded for his work in both jazz and classical music. This performance will be an unusual treat, as the group performs original music written note-for-note for a string quartet and an improvising pianist, a rare situation in a jazz setting. Closing the show will be the internationally recognized Marcin Wasilewski Trio, a group that has been performing together as a band for over 20 years. It’s a distinctive, yet accessible group that strikes a fine balance of tradition and contemporary influences, demonstrating the global language and continuity of jazz music with nuance. Don’t miss this final show of our Polish jazz celebration, presented in partnership with Polish Cultural Institute New York!
