Jazz at Lincoln Center
“There’s a range of music here that might broaden your context, from tight Ellingtonian ballads to squalling empathetic vamp tunes to post-rock and electronica.” – The New York Times The Fresh Cut Orchestra is a hip 10-piece band from Philadelphia led by trumpeter Josh Lawrence, bassist Jason Fraticelli, and drummer Anwar Marshall. They fuse a wide range of jazz influences into an eclectic but distinct blend that honors much of jazz’s history while also incorporating contemporary influences from multiple genres. It’s obvious that this group has been working together closely, and though extended solos appear regularly – allowing one or two members to significantly steer each piece – the diverse compositions are what give the group its unique character. Tonight’s performance is the official album release party for the group’s highly anticipated new album, "Mind Behind Closed Eyes."
