Jazz at Lincoln Center
With pianist Harold Mabern, bassist Brandi Disterheft, and drummer Joe Farnsworth “Listening to her is like putting your finger into a naked power-socket. Blue Canvas is lit up with a sizzling performance…” – Wholenote Magazine Juno Award-winning Brandi Disterheft is a formidable bassist, vocalist, and composer who just released her latest album, Blue Canvas. For her Dizzy’s Club album release party, she’s bringing two master musicians and close collaborators to the stage: drummer Joe Farnsworth, and the 80-year-old jazz veteran Harold Mabern, who has played with icons like Wes Montgomery, Sarah Vaughan, and Jackie McLean. Having recorded multiple albums together, the chemistry between Disterheft and Farnsworth is unmistakable. “To play time with Joe [Farnswoth] can feel like effortlessly soaring up into the sky while holding onto an oversized helium balloon gliding over a raging river,” says Disterheft. “I first heard Joe live with Pharoah Sanders in my early twenties and later with Wynton Marsalis' band. You never forget hearing Joe play live.” Join us for an evening of pure, hard-swinging jazz that showcases Disterheft’s strong originals and the group’s expert take on favorites by composers like Clifford Brown and Tadd Dameron.
