On Tuesday, July 9, presented in association with the NY Forró Fest, the Brazilian songwriter, singer, poet, and "Queen of Forró" Elba Ramalho brings her high-energy dance music to Midsummer Night Swing. We asked Brazilian music expert DJ Greg Caz, who'll be opening the night for Ramalho, to set the mood with this essential forró playlist.

Greg Caz: The following tunes are ones that have proven not only durable but downright bulletproof in my sets during the last 15+ years, since Forró In The Dark's legendary Wednesday night weekly at Nublu kicked off the current forró craze in New York. So without further ado, and in no particular order, here goes:

"Xique-Xique" by Tom Zé

"É Proibido Cochilar" by As Cangaceiras

"Imbalança/17 Légua e Meia" by Dominguinhos

"Xamêgo" by Fafá de Belém

"Forró No Claro" by Trio Nordestino

"Maracatú Êta" by Trio Nordestino

"Forró Do Sertão" by Dominguinhos

"Bate Na Palma Da Mão" by Gabriel O Pensador

"Rapaziada Do Baião" by Pau Brasil

"Proibido No Forró" by Jackson do Pandeiro

"Forró do Xenhenhém" by Elba Ramalho
