We invite you to explore the legacies of San Juan Hill through the words of the neighborhood’s residents and advocates—as they talk about who lived there, the historical significance of the neighborhood, community ties, music and cultural legacy, and segregation and violence in the area. These oral histories reflect the memories, experience, and opinions of the interviewees. The videos draw from interview footage recorded in 1985 by New York City’s municipal broadcast television station, WNYC-TV, for Neighborhood Voices, a limited series on changing city neighborhoods, archived by the NYC Department of Records & Information Services.
