Known for its cutting-edge performances, the Argus Quartet showcases its “rare level of innovation” (New Classic LA) in this free, literature-inspired program that pairs two masters of the repertory—Beethoven and Janáček—with contemporary composer Katherine Balch. The second movement of Beethoven's String Quartet in F major is said to have been inspired by Romeo & Juliet, Janáček's Kreutzer Sonata influenced by Tolstoy’s novella of the same name, and Balch's With Each Breathing borne from an e.e.cummings poem.
