Mark Morris, the “Mozart of modern dance” (The Washington Post), returns to Lincoln Center with his beloved masterpiece L’Allegro, il Penseroso ed il Moderato. A marriage of soaring Handel music and life-affirming dance, the work refers to ways of living and dancing at once: mirthful, melancholy, and in moderation. An exquisite fusion of Baroque songcraft and Morris’s famously musical choreographic ethos, the celebrated choreographer’s humanist, spiritual vision evokes a sublime, timelessly relevant world. Handel expert Jane Glover—a long-time collaborator of Morris’s—leads soloists, The Choir of Trinity Wall Street with Downtown Voices, and the MMDG Music Ensemble.

The Program

“Masterpiece isn't a word to be thrown around lightly, but there's no denying that Mark Morris's L'Allegro, il Penseroso ed il Moderato is thrillingly that.”
– New York Times
“The entire spectacle represents one of those rare theatrical occasions by which those present measure their lives.”
– The Times Literary Supplement (U.K.)
