A Celebration of Chuck Berry
Eleven years after the untimely death of American hip-hop producer J Dilla, L.A. multi-instrumentalist and producer Miguel Atwood-Ferguson brings his expansive reimagination of Dilla’s music as contemporary chamber music to NYC for the first time. Bridging orchestral textures with elements of soul, jazz, hip-hop, improvisation, and world music, Suite for Ma Dukes began with the 2007 release of producer Carlos Niño and Atwood-Ferguson’s instrumental version of J Dilla and Common’s “Nag Champa,” followed by the Suite for Ma Dukes EP and 2009 live premiere in L.A., where Dilla’s mother Maureen (a.k.a. Ma Dukes) was a special guest.
“The most powerful thing I’ve heard in a long time.”
“One of the premier musicians, orchestrators, arrangers, and composers of our time.”
