Ethiopian-born singer songwriter and longtime Lincoln Center collaborator Meklit Hadero draws inspiration from the immigrant experience—both her own and others—to inform the public radio program MOVEMENT, broadcast nationally on PRX’s The World. Over a series of conversations and interviews, Meklit and her band engage with new Americans to put their stories into a creative context, presenting a musical journey that more fully encompasses the narrative tapestry of their individual unique heritage. For the first program of this very special live MOVEMENT residency, Meklit will be joined onstage with her collaborators as co-performers. This is personal history brought to joyful life, centering migrants as the USA’s prime drivers of innovative perspective, cultural expression, and fresh art.
