Mariachi Arcoiris de Los Angeles, the world's first LGBTQIA+ mariachi group, presents the infectious sounds and rhythms of Mexico interpreted through the queer Mexican-American lens in this family-friendly event. Part of Lincoln Center’s Pride celebrations, the ensemble provides a haven where LGBTQIA+ mariachi musicians can gather to perform and enjoy traditional Mexican music in an otherwise often “machista” world. Led by director Carlos Samaniego, Mariachi Arcoiris de Los Angeles features Natalia Melendez, the first transgender woman in the history of mariachi. Join us before the show for an interactive, creative Pre-Show Family Workshop led by Lincoln Center Teaching Artists! Open to visitors of all ages and ability levels for art-making inspired by the performance.
