J. S. Bach (arr. Anton Webern): Ricercar a 6 from The Musical Offering
Hannah Kendall He stretches out the north over the void and hangs the earth on nothing (world premiere)
Johann Sebastian Bach Keyboard Concerto in A major
Robert Schumann Symphony No. 2

Experience the closing concerts of the Festival Orchestra which shine a light on the transformative power of music for our mental and emotional well-being. This evening of interconnected narrative includes the world premiere of Hannah Kendall’s He stretches out the north over the void and hangs the earth on nothing, inspired by scripture from Job:27 and Schumann’s Symphony No. 2. Learn about the ways Schumann relied on the music of Bach for uplift, through his Musical Offering and Keyboard Concerto in A Major, performed by Conrad Tao. Finally, hear the Schumann Symphony itself, with its churning conflicts reflective of Schumann’s mental health challenges. The concerts are accompanied by panel sessions, presented with the Jameel Arts and Health Lab in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO).

He stretches out the north over the void and hangs the earth on nothing is co-commissioned by Lincoln Center and Musikkollegium Winterthur
