Sonic Futures is the culmination of a semester-long dialogue between Berklee’s Department of Electronic Production and Design students and Nona Hendryx’s Dream Machine project. Primarily focused on Afrofuturism and spatial audio, throughout the semester, the students have been crafting a soundscape for Bina48’s Garden that reflects each of their interpretations of, and hopes for, what the future may sound like. The resulting soundscape threads a narrative of care, inclusivity, possibility, and cultural diversity while also articulating a critique of the abuse of power done in the name of technological growth and violence produced by sociocultural biases. Inspired by The Dream Machine’s invitation to be a limitless dreamer, the works created by the group animate the future they want to see, now. The event will feature the 10 pieces that compose the Garden’s soundscape and provide space for conversation between the artists and the audience.

Run time: approximately 1 hour 30 minutes
