Brooklyn-based musician Xenia Rubinos brings her powerful, genre-defying sound to Lincoln Center Out of Doors as part of the Nosotros Festival's stellar lineup on July 27.

Voice and piano.

New Shabazz Palaces records. I really like the song "Parallax."

The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao by Junot Diaz.
Top pieces of advice for aspiring artists?
Believe your own hype. Make music you believe in, that uplifts and inspires you because in your darkest, loneliest hour it's all you have.
First live performance you remember seeing?
A live musical with my dad at the Bushnell theater in Hartford.
Artist you'd most like to meet, past or present?
My latest album Black Terry Cat.
First time you realized you wanted to be a musician?
When I was three or four I spent all day singing whatever music was playing in the house, classic salsa, Madonna, Whitney, Mariah Carey, Miami Sound Machine.
The moment when you think you can't do it is the moment before you get it, push through.
