Huang Ruo City of Floating Sounds (North American premiere)
Ludwig van Beethoven Symphony No. 6 (“Pastoral”)

Join us for the official opening concerts with the Festival Orchestra, which pair a premiere with a timeless classic, connected through themes of nature. The North American premiere of Huang Ruo’s City of Floating Sounds invites you to connect with your surroundings and each other, beginning even before you enter the hall! Guided by a mobile app, make your way through the city towards Lincoln Center, listening to fragments of the meditative new work. The sound expands as you approach David Geffen Hall with other audience members, culminating with a live performance of the full piece by the Festival Orchestra inside the hall, conducted by Music Director Jonathon Heyward. For the second half, bask in Beethoven’s “Pastoral” Symphony, inspired by his love of nature and walks in the country.

City of Floating Sounds is co-commissioned by Factory International and Lincoln Center
