Argentinian violinist, company artistic director, “tango royalty” (All About Jazz UK), and mentee of the great Astor Piazzolla, Leonardo Suarez-Paz returns to Lincoln Center with his award-winning program, PIAZZOLLA100. In his role as the Artistic Director of Nuevo Tango Arts, Suarez-Paz is redefining tango for the 21st century while uniting people through its art and culture. Join us on an interactive, fleet-footed journey through the history of tango, charting its golden age in the 1940s and 1950s to the present-day nuevo tango renaissance. The evening's performance will featuring the works of event namesake Astor Piazzolla, Carlos di Sarli, Aníbal Troilo, Horacio Salgán, Osvaldo Pugliese, and Suarez-Paz, all performed by an 11-member ensemble, featuring GRAMMY-winning soloists and special guests. PIAZZOLLA100 is co-directed by Olga Suarez-Paz, a dancer-choreographer and prior NYU Steinhardt Dean’s Artist-in-Residence, who will lead the pre-concert tango dance class assisted by members of Nuevo Tango Ballet.
