Rocksteady with the New York City Ska Orchestra, playing an evening-length dance-along concert of ska! The NYC Ska Orchestra is a 20-piece big band of top-notch musicians, led by arranger, trumpeter, and vocalist Kevin Batchelor. The group features star turns from celebrated octogenarian percussionist/vocalist Larry McDonald and master drummer Carl Wright. Alongside a powerhouse collective of instrumental artists from the reggae recording scene, members of the orchestra have performed with Peter Tosh, Bob Marley, Lee “Scratch” Perry, Toots & the Maytals. Together they play a non-stop selection of lush original compositions and arrangements of songs from the richly historic and culturally iconic Jamaican musical styles of 1950s and ’60s ska, mento, rocksteady and jazz. Don't know the difference between mento and two-tone? No worries! A pre-show dance instruction class will give all rude boys and gyals the knowledge needed to skank with the band all night long!
