Presented in collaboration with The New York Library for the Performing Arts

Style: Mambo
Dance Instructor: Sekou McMiller

Learn how to mambo like they used to in New York's legendary Palladium nightclub, where the social dance movement was born! Sekou McMiller and friends host an intergenerational Palladium mambo social dance party and lesson featuring elders, who danced in Palladium's nightclub scene, with a live music performance by the Palladium Mambo Band. The event is inspired and builds upon McMiller's residency at the Library for the Performing Arts where he archived stories and movements around the mambo community for the Jerome Robbins Dance Division archive.

From 1945 to 1966, The Palladium Ballroom was the home for the mambo, a social, partner dance. The Palladium is also recognized as the first integrated dance space in Midtown, and it was known to the clubgoers as a place of family, a place of love, and a place of dance. In this social dance night at Lincoln Center, Sekou McMiller will teach how to mambo, along with the sounds of live music igniting The Dance Floor.

All are welcomed to share in an evening of social dance bliss reminiscent of the golden era of mambo. During the evening there will be a special presentation from the mambo residency.
