Founded and led by interdisciplinary artists Amanda Dunne Acevedo and Lindsey Barlag Thornton, the Chicago-based collective Genesis hybridizes theater, performance art, and dance to blur the boundaries of live performance. Genesis's newly restaged ensemble production of there are no dead people is a rumination on death and living, offering a deeply human exploration of loss. Devised through improvisation, Genesis interweaves movement, storytelling, and song to celebrate all the things that make life wondrous and meaningful. there are no dead people honors how, even in the midst of the seemingly insurmountable, we somehow continue to find joy. The New York premiere of this acclaimed work features Acevedo, Thornton, Carol Crosby, Jordan Harris, Alex Hovi, Grace Needlman, and Lauren Steinberg with Holly Gabelmann as additional ensemble and assistant directing.
