Presented in collaboration with The Metropolitan Opera

Part of Lincoln Center’s 2025-26 Visionary Artist series, a distinguished panel gathers for a dynamic conversation exploring the creative threads that connect storytelling across disciplines. Grounded in Karen Valby’s The Swans of Harlem, which chronicles the untold stories of five Black ballerinas of Dance Theatre of Harlem, the panel reflects on legacy, visibility, and the power of reclaiming hidden histories. The panel will include Valby, former chief diversity officer at The Met Opera (and one of the book’s featured ballerinas) Marcia Sells, Director of Archives at the Metropolitan Opera Dr. Maurice Wheeler, and Lincoln Center Visionary Artist Jeanine Tesori who draws connections between the panelists’ diverse experiences to illuminate the shared forces that shape cultural expression.
